Workers' Comp Physical Therapy in Chicago

What physical therapy does for a work injury
Physical therapy restores the movement, strength and tolerance a job requires. After a strain, sprain, fall or repetitive injury, it is the part of care that gets you from "it hurts less" to "I can do the work again without it coming back."
What the first visit covers
- A history of the incident and your job duties
- An evaluation of movement, strength and function in the injured area
- A treatment plan written for your injury and the work you do
- A work status note describing what you can and cannot do while you recover
- Referrals for imaging or pain management when the provider finds they are needed
How a work injury plan progresses
- Early: hands-on treatment, gentle movement and basic exercise to reduce pain and restore range of motion
- Middle: progressive loading that mirrors job tasks: lifting from the floor, carrying, reaching, climbing, gripping
- Return to work: job-specific conditioning so the injured area tolerates full duty, with restrictions updated as capacity returns
Injuries physical therapy is used for
Back and neck strain, shoulder and rotator cuff injuries, knee and ankle injuries, hip injuries, hand, wrist and elbow problems from repetitive work, and recovery after a fall or a crash in a work vehicle.
Physical therapy and chiropractic care together
Chiropractic care addresses the joints and spine; physical therapy rebuilds movement, strength and tolerance. Most work injury plans use both, in stages, with imaging or pain management added when the provider finds they are needed.
Common questions
Can I pick my own provider for physical therapy?+
In general, yes. An injured worker in Illinois may choose two physicians. Tell us who you have already seen so we can explain how that applies.
Do I pay at the visit?+
For a covered work injury, the provider bills the employer or its insurer directly. Staff can explain how billing applies to your visit before you are seen.
How often will I come in?+
Frequency depends on the injury and the phase of care. The provider sets it at the evaluation and adjusts it as you improve.
